#44 Things to do with your kids
before they grow up...
Where did June go, people?!
I am amazed at how fast time is. We really are ascending to a higher dimension. We need to adapt and prioritize what is really important to our hearts. There is no time for fooling around: do what makes your heart sing and your body dance. There is no time for dramas and lamas… but love and more love. Everything that is not at the frequency of love will fade away. When we are honest with our desires, we make room for what is dear to us and time slows down. Enjoy!
I challenge you this summer to have three days with no phones, no screens, and no connection with the outside world. When we give up the clicks and the swipes that make life faster than ever, we go back to our body’s natural speed and can enjoy reality. Try it. On the first day, the brain will be restless and monkey-mind-like, bored, and frustrated for not having regular light-speed entertainment. Don’t let it win. Take deep breaths in the fresh air, go underwater and hold your breath so the desire goes away. When you come back out you will be just happy to have the air, the sky, and the sun to look at. Your cells will remember what is important in life. The real desire for life will light up your fun spirit. If there is no pool, sea or ocean choose to go for a fast run to challenge your breath. Your cells will wake up asking what is going on? Your body will work harder to keep you breathing and you will feel alive again.
If you are trying this exercise with full engagement you will notice the difference. There are enough studies to tell us how damaging screens are for the brain, you don’t need me to convince you. You know it. Give your body a break this summer.
Before my post gets longer than 5 min of reading time, I will get to the list of 44 things to consider doing with your kids that will inspire them to live life fully, with joy and gratitude. I had another subject for this post but all the 4’s in the air made me think of a list that is easy to read and inspiring enough to spice up the summer.
tell stories to each other at midnight
sleep in a tent in your living room
camp in your backyard (balcony)
cook breakfast together for dinner
have a whip-cream fight
take a bubble bath together
have a sleep-over all together in the same bed
spend a whole day naked at home (or at least for breakfast)
swim naked in the ocean (pool, river, lake, sea, waterfall)
go camping (at the beach, into the woods, mountains, by the lake/river)
tell scary stories around the campfire
have a pizza day (only eat pizza for all meals)
eat ice cream for breakfast
stargazing (sleep outside on a pile of hay)
hike a secluded trail
take a long mindful walk together
write a story and make a family book
take a family picture each month/year (same position, same spot by the gate or a tree to see how much kids grew)
chocolate face paint- paint each other with chocolate
body paint - paint your bodies outside(with or no bathing suits on)
scream as loud as possible on top of a hill or mountain
make a scrapbook where each family member decides what to add on the dated page
paint a picture on a wall together (garage wall counts)
get a fake tattoo all together
take the bus across town
ride the train to the next town and back
have a dress-up day (make it super fancy for no event to go to)
babysit a pet for someone (especially if you don’t have a pet)
volunteer work at an animal shelter
visit a children’s hospital and give hugs to everyone there(if you afford it share books or toys)
have a dance party ( you all dance for an hour)
sing karaoke (just your family)
invent a cardboard game for the family
have a goofy day (all day you make jokes and act like characters)
create a vision board for the family
have storytelling at a retiring home
wake up early to see the sunrize (especially on vacation; one day a must)
enjoy a sunset in silence watching the sun until is all under the horizon
cheer with champagne on New Year’s Eve (a drop will not kill anyone)
climb a big tree and sing a song at the top
roll down the hill being loud
have an hour of laughing for no reason
make the crazy sandwich (you put in it anything crazy: chocolate and pickles, or salami with whip cream; got to the extreme)
tell your children stories of yourself as a child (share as much as you can)
WOW!
I challenged myself and I thought I would never find 44 special things to do with children… and now I can’t stop. So many more come to my mind. Some are from my childhood that my parents did without knowing what an impact will have on me. So special when children can remember sweet, amazing, out-of-the-ordinary moments that cost no money but it means everything in the world.
Comment with your fun, crazy idea for family fun so we can make it to 100
Please, make time and take the time to do crazy, fun, special things with your children. That is the most valuable treasure you can pass on to them. There is too much responsibility in this world to carry on their shoulders, let’s give the gift of laughter. I tried to choose no-cost activities. Love and laughter are to be enjoyed anytime, anywhere. Please do!
There are lots of things we can do with our children. Don’t stop yourself because you don’t have the budget for that fancy Disneyland trip.
You be the silly, fun parent that your child will always remember.
Note* - the activities that suggest nakedness I say do them before the kids turn 7, or 8 the most becasue that is the time where they are not judgemental and shy. They take you as you are with no shame and you teach them body biology with no restrictions. After 8 they start being shy and they will hate seeing you naked. It starts to be too much for them. If they are OK with it, don’t stop swimming naked in the ocean with them. Make it fun and adventurous. But if they tell you they don’t like it anymore, let it be. They will for sure remember the good times you had before they started to be “grown-up”. Of course, you don’t do this all the time. But that one special time to be remembered. "
“Mom, do you remember when we all jumped naked off the boat because we forgot the bathing suits (on purpose) and the water was so clear? “
“Dad, do you remember when you got us all tipsy becasue we drank beer together?”
… that was so much fun!
And this is the perfect moment to suggest you listen to this new favorite song of mine. Make sure you click on the link below and listen. The message is precious.
Do it now… till you can.
Make life fun and memorable.
Happy 4th of July!
writing with a fun spirit,
Mihaela
